This pelham gag is a great compromise between two leverage bits combined into one. The pelham cheek provides the ultimate control over the horse's movement and the gag rings act as a balance controller lifting the horse's balance. This bit is strong due to its double leverage nature. This pelham bit can only be used when four reins are applied. This is done by putting a pair of reins on the gag cheek pieces and the other one on the pelham rings. It is possible to soften the strength of the bit by adding connectors to reduce the leverage action. The curb chain action can be softened by using other curb chain types such as leather or nylon.
