The Sweet Iron Waterford Full Cheek features a mouthpiece that encourages salivation. Full cheeks are highly effective for green horses or young horses as they can help with steering. The long shanks on the bit create pressure against the horse's cheeks when asked to turn. The full cheek design also prevents the bit from being dragged through the horse’s mouth. The mouthpiece is comprise of a series of oval shaped links. The multiple joints allow for maximum movability in all directions. This is especially common for addressing issues such as leaning, taking hold of the bit and setting the jaw. When the horse tries to take hold of the bit, the mouthpiece collapses leaving the horse with nothing rigid to take hold of. The mouthpiece is effective in distributing pressure over the tongue and bars of the mouth. When combined with full cheeks, this bit is a good choice for a stronger horse who still needs guidance with steering.
